Understand domain status

A domain moves through a few states from the moment you add it to when the widget is live and reporting. Here's what each means and what to do.

Verification states

Pending Verification You added the domain but haven't proven ownership yet. → Open the domain, choose Verify, and add the meta tag. See Verify your domain.

Verified Ownership confirmed. The widget *can* now be served, and your install snippet is available. → Install the widget.

Widget activity states

Once verified, the dashboard shows whether your site is actually loading the widget:

Awaiting Install Verified, but no page has loaded the widget yet. → Paste the install snippet into your site's global template and load a page.

Active The widget is running and your site is sending heartbeats (it reports back on real page loads). This is the healthy state.

Dormant The widget was active before, but no heartbeats have arrived recently (roughly the last 24 hours). This usually means the site has had no visitors lately, or the script was removed or moved. → If you expect traffic, open the site yourself to confirm the button still loads; if it's gone, re-check your install.

How "Active" is detected

Your site reports a heartbeat when a real visitor loads a page with the widget. The first heartbeat flips the domain from Awaiting Install to Active; later heartbeats keep it active. So after you install, the status updates once a page is actually loaded — usually within a few minutes — not the instant you paste the snippet.
